Vans President on Critical Mass: The Radio Show

Kevin Bailey, President of Vans was my guest yesterday on Critical Mass: The Radio Show yesterday. He and I discussed a wide range of topics. The mp3 will be available soon on our podcasting sites Critical Mass: The Radio Show and Apple iTunes.

Vans has always been a brand of shoe popular with a young and active demographic, few of them today may realize that the brand was actually started in the swinging sixties and many of their baby boomer parents are huge fans of the Vans brand.

It is estimated that the size of the global Action Sports market is over $20 billion. Where the future area of growth will be most significant within the action sport market remains to be seen.

VF Corporation's Outdoor & Action Sports Unit (which owns Vans) has seen its revenue grow by an average of 17% over the past 5 years.

Listen in as Ric Franzi and Kevin Bailey talk about Vans, a major player in the action sports market and an iconic brand.

Vans is popular but probably due to the downfall of one of its major competitors not realizing how important that niche was...

History of Vans is that on 1966, at California, Paul Van Doren and three partners opened up their first store. The Van Doren Rubber Company was unique in that it manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. On that first morning, 12 customers purchased Vans deck shoes, which are now known as Authentic. The shoes made that day were ready for pick-up in the afternoon.

Something interesting I never realized was that some people really focus on brand nowadays. The other day I was wearing a pair of sneekers(not vans...), And a guy actually came up to me and asked what the brand was. To me this never really mattered much aslong as it looked good.

But girls know everything. So I feel we should really focus on who makes our image... Thanx for the informative article.
